Zen Wealth opened up a Spanish operation (based in the Marbella area) in 2014, to offer a professional, fee based advice service to UK Expats living in Spain.
We are able to offer the service through our UK business, as we are authorised (via an IMD** passport) to offer ‘cross-border’ services. This means (MOST importantly) that clients will be offered the full protection of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), so they will be treated as though they were receiving advice in the UK – from a regulatory perspective. I believe that this will be extremely attractive (and advantageous) as currently there is a lot of mistrust and suspicion of Advisers in Spain.
*The Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD) passport allows you to give advice on insurance-based products to clients based in another EEA state.
There are also tax implications that UK Expats living in Spain need to consider when planning their finances. This article from Investors Chronicle gives some idea of the issues.
